Calgary Women in Energy (CWiE) is an exclusive, non-profit, oil women’s society dedicated to promoting, supporting and empowering women in Calgary’s energy sector. Members are directly engaged in oil field exploration and production, pipelines and facilities, construction and manufacturing. Working collaboratively with men in the industry, CWiE is a dynamic collection of professional women with integrity and shared aspirations. We facilitate meaningful approaches to networking and embrace new ways of enriching our connections. Decentralised Energy Canada (DEC) is a national industry association dedicated to the appropriate development of decentralised energy. Axis Connects is a non-profit organization taking the lead role in being a central collaboration and resource hub for women and diverse professionals. The Axis Connects Hub, an online platform and membership portal, unites members with the organizations and companies whose initiatives are working to strengthen diverse representation in Calgary’s business community and provide detailed professional development resources to guide them through their career journey. The Women In Power collaborative venture is a networking, mentorship, and peer-to-peer support group that spans across the entirety of the CEATI organization. It aims to promote engineering and other technical careers to women in the field, and to share common challenges and strategies for overcoming obstacles as women in a field populated predominantly by men. In order to achieve these goals, the CEATI Women in Power Group offers the following three initiatives: Face-to-face networking at industry-open CEATI events, Women in Power Webinar Series, and a Mentorship Triad Program that connects women at different points in their career. Launched in 2013, WiRE forges partnerships with government agencies and a spectrum of renewable energy industry associations, other related networking groups for professional women from across the energy sector, and academic providers. WiRE’s mission is to advance the role and recognition of women working in the energy sector. Inclusive of all renewable energy and clean technologies, WiRE’s programming includes capacity-building field trips, networking meet-ups, an awards recognition program, student bursaries, speed mentoring and more.

The Natural Resources Canada-led Equal by 30 campaign, launched in May 2018 under the banner of the international Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM), is an international framework that asks companies and governments to endorse principles, then take action in service of a common goal: Make gender equality central to the transition to a clean energy future by promoting equal pay, opportunity and leadership for women. Equal by 30 asks non-profit organizations like Women+Power to endorse principles, and take concrete actions to help close the gender gap. Through this campaign, leadership from across the energy sector is being brought together to galvanize action, and help all players – from private sector companies to governments at all levels – take action together.
