Farewell & Thank You to Outgoing Women+Power Board Chair, Jana Mosley, & Announcing Incoming Board Chair, Johanne Picard-Thompson

Women+Power (W+P) was founded in 2020 by Sharleen Gatcha, four founding sponsors and a small, dedicated volunteer board of directors, including Jana Mosley, President at ENMAX Power, Nearly four years later, W+P has more than 900 members, 17 corporate financial sponsors and has expanded its events and programs due in large part to the commitment of its volunteer board of directors.

Jana stepped into the role as W+P Board Chair in November 2022 and under her leadership and over her board tenure, membership has quadrupled, sponsorship has tripled, diverse leaders have been recruited to the board, and the profile of W+P has grown significantly. At the W+P AGM, Jana stepped down as board chair and member of the W+P board to dedicate her volunteer contributions to other organizations she is involved with and to allow for a renewal of the board.

“I am honoured to have been a part of the W+P board and to have worked alongside such a talented and dedicated group of volunteers over the years,” says Mosley. “I believe that W+P is leading a positive shift in the power industry and that the current board and incoming board chair, Johanne Picard-Thompson, will continue the evolution of the organization and ultimately lead to greater opportunities for women, of all ages and stages in this dynamic industry.”

Johanne Picard-Thompson, Executive Vice President, Customer and Corporate Services at AltaLink, joined the W+P board in March of 2023 and served on the sponsorship committee before accepting the role as board chair in November 2023. Johanne is a graduate from the University of Toronto’s Engineering Science Program and Queen’s University Master of Business Administration program and prior to joining AltaLink, held multiple senior executive roles in the oil and gas and manufacturing sectors.

“I am thrilled to be serving as the W+P Board Chair and I sincerely thank Jana for her leadership, as well as my fellow board members for their ongoing commitment and expertise,” says Picard-Thompson. “2024 will be an exciting year for W+P as we expand our events and programs, sponsor the University of Calgary Winter Career Fair, host our first in-person event in Edmonton, revive the Peer-to-Peer Mentorship program, and more. I am confident that with the leadership of our board and the commitment from our generous sponsors that we will be able to provide even more meaningful opportunities for women of all levels working in Alberta’s power industry to connect, support and inspire each other to achieve their full potential both professionally and personally.”

2023 Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100

Our very own Board Chair, and President of ENMAX Power, Jana Mosley, was just named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the WXN (Women’s Executive Network).

Jana was recognized for her accomplishments in the Executive Leaders category which recognizes women, who not only exemplify what it means to be a great leader, but also build confidence and champion others.

WXN and their partners recognize outstanding women across Canada who make a transformational difference in their fields and actively shape a more inclusive future, especially in underrepresented areas. Every year, they have a challenge: to select just 100 women to receive our Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards.

These are women who personify what it means to be powerful through the way they empower and champion others, influence change and stand up for all of us. And as Top 100 winners, they stand among more than 1,500 powerful leaders across Canada who share that honour… and our thanks.

Congratulations Jana!

Energizing The Industry. Capital Power recently expanded its Executive Team. Meet May Wong and Pauline McLean.

Capital Power recently expanded its Executive Team to support its journey to create clean, reliable, and affordable power generation across North America for communities to prosper and thrive. May Wong and Pauline McLean are two of the leading women now bringing their dynamic energy to Capital Power’s C-suite as the company powers towards net zero by 2045.

May Wong leads the development and execution of Capital Power’s corporate strategy and direction, including the long-term planning process, as Senior Vice President of Strategy, Planning & Sustainability. She’s built a reputation for excellence at Capital Power, with leadership roles in strategy, forecasting and sustainability.

With over 20 years of electricity industry experience, May is pivotal to the multi-national power producers’ decarbonization journey. She guides current and emerging technologies and assesses, explores, and develops other strategic growth initiatives that align with corporate goals.

As an acting member of the Energy Futures Lab’s Partners Council, May also shares her expertise to support the acceleration of Canada’s energy transition. As an advocate for women in energy, she proudly held a mentorship role with The Prosperity Project’s Rosie 1:1 Mentoring Program that focuses on educating, enabling, and empowering self-identifying women to advance in their careers.

As Senior Vice President of External Relations and Chief Legal Officer, Pauline McLean leads Capital Power’s legal, regulatory, corporate compliance, and external relations functions. Pauline’s team guides decisions, promotes ethics and accountability, cultivates relationships with government and industry decision-makers, fosters strong relationships within the company’s operating communities, and tells Capital Power’s story – and it’s an inspiring story to tell!

Before Capital Power, Pauline excelled for 14 years with the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), leading teams through the successful execution of greenfield initiatives, including programs to incent renewable electricity and new business models to procure and finance transmission infrastructure. Before joining the energy industry, Pauline practiced corporate and commercial law at a national firm.
